Hey friends… I am always up for coffee or a glass of wine. So when I hear that theres such a thing as coffee wine, I was intrigued and knew I had to try it.

If you love bold, delicious coffee and smooth, complex wine, we have great news for you! There’s a new drink on the market that combines these two delicious drinks. But this is not your classic coffee cocktail like Irish coffee, this alcoholic coffee drink isn’t mixed by your bartender.

Keep reading to learn all about coffee wine, from how it’s made and where to buy it.

What is coffee wine?

Many of us think of grapes when we think of wine. But you can make wine out of all kinds of fruit, including strawberries, peaches, coconuts, and even pineapples. The base of wine is just fermented  sugar — like all kinds of alcohol — and the fruit adds flavor.

The drink we’re talking about today is much crazier than any classic wine. It turns out that you can make wine out of brewed coffee, no fruit required. Brewers start with ground coffee, sugar, and water. Once the sweetened cold brew is ready, they add a variety of yeasts, enzymes, and acids. Leave the wine to ferment and then age for a few months and you’ll have coffee wine!

Where to find Coffee Wine?

Recently, Apothic winery started to produce their own line of cold brew coffee infused wine, making it their signature wine along with their range of Californian wines. Apothic Brew is a decaf wine, so it’s all about the taste of the rich mixture of flavors, not for having a pick-me-up when you feel a bit sleepy. Apothic Wines describe their cold brew as having, “notes of red fruit and toasted oak combine with hints of cold brew for a well-balanced blend.
